OhioMeansJobs Stark & Tuscarawas Counties Partners Aid Veteran in his Transition to Civilian Life

While out in the community, Lori Douglass, Community Services Coordinator with OhioMeansJobs Stark & Tuscarawas Counties, connected with Matt Evans, a recent veteran adjusting to civilian life. Lori introduced Matt to Troy Bradfield, Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, who helped Matt navigate resources for his back disabilities and introduced him to programs like the G.I. Bill and Chapter 31. This guidance set Matt on a path to pursue his education.

With Troy’s support, Matt enrolled in FAA Part 107 Drone License Preparation training at Buckeye Career Center and is set to begin studying Unmanned Aeronautical Vehicles at Kent State University in January 2025. “Troy helped me find a career that aligns with my interests and abilities,” Matt said. His future plans include leveraging his drone expertise to start a business and contribute to industries like law enforcement, agriculture, and real estate.

Matt praised OhioMeansJobs for its dedication to veterans, particularly its focus on physical and mental health. “Their support was a game-changer,” he shared. Programs like VALife and their job guidance services gave him the tools needed to transition successfully.

To other veterans, Matt advises: “Don’t hesitate to seek help. Resources like OhioMeansJobs can open doors you never knew existed. Take the first step and embrace the support designed to help you achieve your goals.”
